Abstract

This study examines the potential of Blockchain technology to address the challenges confronted by peer-to-peer platforms in the marketing of tourist accommodations. Peer-to-peer platforms for short-term accommodation rentals are expected to gain popularity in the coming years. This business model, which is based on P2P technology, raises issues related to data security, regulations, and fraud. This literature review analyses the limitations and challenges of P2P platforms for accommodation and identifies the opportunities offered by Blockchain technology to improve topics such as regulation, transparency, and efficiency in this market from a marketing perspective. The implementation of this technology has the potential to create a protocol for sheltered and transparent records of all transactions involved, thereby increasing the trust between users and service providers. Other functionalities, such as Smart Contracts, ensure compliance with rental contracts, reduce the risk of noncompliance, and improve user experience. This technology can also enable boundless flexibility in rental contracts, while reducing costs and barriers, allowing easier entry into the market, thereby increasing the disposal of rental housing.
