Kazakhstan debuted at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence and placed fourth in the team standings.
The national team's top performer was ninth-grader Abu Kanabek, who won gold and placed ninth individually among school students worldwide. His example shows that you can begin developing in ML and AI before university.
In a long-form interview with our community, we discussed his path to victory, lessons from the olympiad, the balance of theory and practice needed for success, how he will prepare for the next olympiad, and his wishes for our community's enthusiasts.
As always, we hope you will share the interview widely if you share our values of mutual support and self-development.
We want to create the DSML KZ Research Hub, bringing together AI and ML researchers with Central Asian roots whether they are in Almaty, Silicon Valley, or anywhere else in the world.
Whether you are a PhD student in Tashkent, a researcher at Google, or a professor in Bishkek, if you have ties to Central Asia, work in AI/ML, and have at least one or two research publications in AI, optimization, machine learning, or a related field, we warmly invite you to complete our form.
Only a few days remain before the next season, so we would like to congratulate last season's winners. It is not an AI olympiad, of course, but these are very respected people too 🤣

It would be wonderful for this day to be remembered on the corporate social network through these lines.
🥇 Gold medals by country: 6 — Russia; 3 — Kazakhstan, Poland, India, Vietnam; 2 — Singapore; 1 — Romania, Japan, Sweden, Hong Kong, China.
In my view, this success shows that the national AI olympiad jointly organized by DSML KZ and CPFED, along with the training camps that followed, genuinely helped the team develop the right intuition to succeed at this level.
Special thanks:
